Carta archeologica

The Museum in collaboration with the Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Emilia Romagna Region regularly updates the digital data base of archaeological sites in the area of Modena. The “Carta archeologica” of the town and province territory represents a defebce instrument of the archaeological heritage related to the territorial planning and presently comprehends more than 6,000 archaeological presences.

As regards any building and urbanistic work on the territory of Modena the Museum follows the procedures of archaeological assent (safeguard present in PRG) and of prior verification of archaeological interest (public works DL 163/2006, artt. 95-96).

Currently the Museum is working on the transformation of the traditional “carta archeologica” into a charter of archaeological potentiality, a brand new system based on the reconstruction of ancient decking and layers of alluvial and anthropic deposits so to define an “archaeological risk” according to the depth of escavation.
